Among the most celebrated of trade beads, the compelling “Russian Blues” likely originated in Czechoslovakia, Bohemia, or Venice. Russian traders may have purchased them directly from traders in Europe, or possibly from the Hudson Bay Company. From the 15th to the 20th century, traders carried European glass beads across the world, and used the beads as a form of currency.
I have a small cache of “Russian Blue” trade beads from the Aleutian Islands in Alaska. Blue trade beads were prized by the indigenous people for their symbolic connection to the sky.

This elegant design features one simple vintage “Blue Trade Bead” on a Sterling Silver chain.   Beads will vary slightly depending on their unique color and structure.  The length of chain will be 16 inches unless you order a different length.
